What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

Decisions to close or partially close schools, or to send bubbles or individual children home to isolate, are made extremely quickly and with very little notice to schools and parents. When this happens, we will ensure that a paper pack of work is made ready to collect as soon as possible from school, so that there is some work to complete while waiting for more formal remote provision to be organised. Work in these packs will help the children to practise key skills that are relevant to the year group within which they are working.

Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. In the key subjects of mathematics and English, children completing remote learning at home will have access to resources that we frequently use in school (specifically the use of the White Rose scheme of work in mathematics, and the use of planning and resources from the CLPE ‘Power of Reading’ scheme in English.) Children working at home will typically complete the same activities that children working in school are simultaneously working on, though on occasion an alternative activity with the same learning outcomes might be provided (e.g. if the activity would require equipment that may not be readily available at home).

Children working remotely are provided with high quality resources to allow them to access the full breadth of the curriculum, across all foundation subjects. The input for the lessons varies depending on the type of subject and which format is most appropriate, but generally will include clear explanation of the lesson aims by way of video or Powerpoint, along with practical tasks to complete at home.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

We expect that remote education (including remote teaching, independent work and any practical tasks suggested) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

EYFS & KS1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children)

KS2 (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children)
