Ellington Primary School works with a wide range of Local Authority Services and agencies, as well as other Northumberland schools, and other private providers to fulfil the statutory duties placed on all schools and also to enhance our provision, particularly for sport and creative arts.
Ellington works closely with other primary schools in the community. This enables us to benefit from more staff training opportunities, team planning and delivery and inter-school competitions. This can also be a cost effective way of working.
We have began working with Ashington Secondary School, which is the main feeder school for our children when they move into Year 7. There is a structured transition programme to help the children to prepare for life in a much bigger school environment. Â
We also enjoy working with children and staff from other schools in the borough and we take part in a huge number of sporting events through our membership with the Ashington Sports Partnership. Visiting coaches also support our teachers with the delivery of the PE curriculum, Â by teaching the children specific games skills.
We have our annual Ellington Summer Fair which is a fun event for the children and families living around the area. Â
We work with local businesses and establishments, forging educational relationships with key members of the community to the benefit of our children. Over the years a number of children and staff have taken part in the Greggs Children Cancer Run. Every Harvest, we create food parcels and donated them to The Wansbeck Valley Foodbank to support with their good work, providing meals to those less advantaged in society. We regularly hold fundraising events and donate money, food and clothes to chosen charities. (More information is available on our Charity Work page.
Traditionally, at Christmas, we visit our older community friends singing a selection of Christmas carols.
Reverend Julia, Vicar at St Bartholomew's church in Cresswell, visits us regularly to deliver assemblies with a strong emphasis on SMSC and communal worship.Â
