At Ellington, we believe that enrichment is a core part of giving children a broad, balanced and joyful education. The DfE’s Enrichment Framework reinforces what we already value: that pupils should experience a wide range of opportunities that help them grow academically, socially and personally. Enrichment is not an “extra” for us — it is part of who we are as a school and central to our commitment to developing confident, curious and well‑rounded young people.

We design our enrichment offer around the five national enrichment categories:

• Arts and Culture – giving children rich experiences in music, drama, art and performance.

• Sport and Physical Activity – promoting teamwork, resilience and healthy lifestyles through a wide range of sports and active clubs.

• Nature and Outdoor Adventure – helping pupils connect with the outdoors through forest school, gardening, exploration and environmental learning.

• Civic Engagement – encouraging pupils to contribute to their community, take on leadership roles and understand the world around them.

• Life Skills and STEM – building practical skills, problem‑solving, digital confidence and curiosity through hands‑on experiences.

Our enrichment programme is planned carefully so that every child has access to meaningful experiences across all five areas. These opportunities help pupils develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, creativity and resilience. They also support personal development by giving children space to explore interests, discover talents and build confidence.

Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) shows that high‑quality enrichment can improve motivation, engagement and attitudes to learning, with particularly strong benefits for disadvantaged pupils. The DfE guidance builds on this by emphasising inclusion, removing barriers and ensuring that enrichment is available to all. At Ellington, this is central to our approach: we work hard to make sure every child can take part, regardless of background or circumstance.

Our offer includes sports clubs, music and drama opportunities, art projects, outdoor learning, leadership roles, cultural visits, community events and hands‑on STEM activities. These experiences are woven into our curriculum, shared with families and aligned with our school values. Most importantly, they help children feel proud of their school, connected to their community and excited about learning.
