Walking Bus/School Travel Policy

At Ellington Primary School, we actively encourage our pupils and staff to walk, scoot or cycle to school as it will:
  • keep us fit and healthy
  • help our pupils develop road safety skills which will keep them safe as they travel further afield and more independently
  • help keep our local air clean, and our streets free from congestion
  • are life skills that everyone should be able to benefit from
We have a walking bus which is on every Tuesday and Thursday morning, meeting at The Plough at 8:20am and walking to school with members of staff.

We have been awarded the Silver (Very Good Travel Plan) from Modeshift for our dedication to sustainable travel.
Love Northumberland Award Winners 2025!

We were delighted to win a Love Northumberland Award in recognition of our Walking Bus. Our Walking Bus project has had a significant impact since its introduction in 2022. It has helped reduce congestion in the local streets around our school by reducing the number of cars, therefore it has helped to reduce pollution from vehicles. It has also helped our children (and staff) to get exercise before school and it has helped build relationships between the school and the local community.
