Week 33 in Nursery
What a super first week back after the holidays. We have started our new topic
‘A Journey to…’
This week our journey is to… the woods. Our story focus is one of Mrs Cook’s favourite stories The Gruffalo. Our role play area has turned into the Gruffalo’s cave. We have to take our shoes off to go into the cave. The children have been practicing taking their shoes off and putting them back on. It would be great if you could encourage your child to do this at home to support their independence skills. The children talked about the features of the Gruffalo and then made their own clay Gruffalo model.
In maths, we have been consolidating pattern. The children did some brilliant repeating patterns. We have also been focusing on our numbers. Our shape this week is a sphere.
In phonics so far the sounds that we have covered are m a s d t i n p g o c k u b f e l and h. We have also been using Fred Talk e.g. c-a-t cat to blend words. Our big focus this half term for the children moving up to Reception in September is letter formation and holding a pencil correctly. I have attached some examples of Fred Talk games and the phrases we use to help the children form their letters, starting in the correct place.
Our secret reader this week was Miss Pink from Year 6. Miss Pink told us her favourite story called Scarecrows’ Wedding!
Next Friday 13th June we have our Sports Day 9am-10am.
A brilliant week Nursery superstars!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook
What a busy final week before half term!
The children have had a wonderful week full of activities. We have been testing our fine motor skills with pencil control, name writing, junk modelling and scissor skills. We have also been testing our gross motor skills with building, balancing, painting on a big scale and so much more.
We have continued our learning all about animals. We have been looking at the similarities and differences between animals and we have been learning about which animals are endangered and which animals are extinct. We have also been looking which animals live in hot climates and which animals live in cold climates.
In maths, we have been representing numbers to 5. We have been making repeating patterns out of different resources. We have also been learning about capacity, using sand or water to show full, empty and half full!
In phonics, we have covered the letters m a s d t i n p g o c k u b f e l. We played a phonics game to see if we could match the sounds.
After the holidays, we have an exciting topic planned. A journey to…
Have a wonderful half term. Only 7 weeks to go when we return to school. This academic year has gone so fast!
As always, thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook
On Thursday, after our Zoo visit, in circle time we talked about our favourite part about the Zoo and then drew a picture to represent this. We have also been looking at where animals live around the world.
In maths, we have been comparing height. We worked in partners and measured our friends with pretend feet to see how tall we all are. We also got in a line from shortest to tallest. We have also been working on number recognition.
The children have shown fantastic teamwork tiger skills when outdoors building dens with the big construction and in the Wildlife Garden. Also, in the indoor environment exploring in the provision.
Another wonderful week for our Nursery superstars.
Only 1 more week to go until half term.
Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook
We had the most fantastic day at Northumberland Zoo. The children have thoroughly enjoyed having a ride on the big bus, taking part in activities with the Zoo Keepers, seeing the snow leopards, seeing the birds of prey show, looking at all of the animals, playing in the soft play and so much more.
The Nursery staff are super proud of our Nursery children for how sensible they were at the zoo.
Well done Nursery. You are all superstars!
What a wonderful week that we have had in Nursery. We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring in our outdoor environment with natural loose parts. We have also been building dens!
In maths, we have been learning about long and short. We measured different animals and objects with cubes and counted the cubes to see which was the longest and which was the shortest. We have also had lots of things in our nursery provision linking to long and short such as making worms out of play dough.
We are continuing to work on our fine motor skills including cutting skills and pencil control. It would be great if your child could continue this at home as well as name writing.
In phonics so far, we have covered the letters m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b and f. We have also been focusing on the initial sound in words e.g. a-a-a apple.
On Thursday, we celebrated VE Day and what a fantastic day that we had. We did lots of activities in nursery, we had fish and chips for dinner and then a family picnic on the school field.
Only 3 more days until our trip to Northumberland Zoo! We are super excited for Wednesday!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook
WOW!
What a very exciting and busy first week back we have had after the Easter holidays. We have welcomed some new friends who have started our Nursery this week! We have been showing our new friends how to play indoors and outdoors as well as settling into routines.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring in the outside environment in the gorgeous weather. We made a big den to create shade when playing in the mud kitchen! The children also enjoyed making bird food and hanging it up in the Wildlife Garden. Another activity that the children enjoyed was collecting flowers and making their own lion faces and vases.
This term, our topic is Amazing Animals and this week we have been focusing on zoo animals, getting us ready for our zoo visit on the 14th May. In maths, we have been weighing the different animals with the scales to see which animals were heavy and which animals were light. We have also been learning about Ranger Hamza who goes on eco quests looking for wildlife, plants etc. We went on our own eco quests. The children took pictures on the iPad of the different things that they found and then we shared the pictures together as a class.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring in our zoo role play area, showing great teamwork tiger skills!
A big focus this term is fine motor skills, we have been using scissors to cut!
On Thursday 8th May, we will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a family picnic on the school field. Children will be able to wear red, white and blue for school and we would like families to join us on the school field for a picnic on the afternoon from 1:30pm-3pm.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook
