First Week in Reception

We have had a very good week in Reception! We have had lots of firsts, including our very first PE lesson with Coach Charlie! The children listened well and followed Charlie's instructions to be more controlled with their ball.
This week, we have been talking about our feelings and we were introduced to the Colour Monster and which Zone of Regulation he was in. The children were really sensible when discussing stories and what advice we could give to a friend if they were experiencing big feelings. At snack time, our focus was to ask our friends how they were feeling today. This gave the children the chance to practise our feelings language. It also helped us understand who needed a little bit of help to get back into the red zone!
We had fun creating our own colour monsters as well as jars for our feelings display. We use a slightly different version of the Colour Monster as we have linked it to the Zone of Regulation. I have attached a Colour Monster feeling chart so you can see which colour links with the monster's we use.
We have also enjoyed learning about our art area and practised how to use the paint pumps and how to mix colours we don't have. The children were challenged to paint a picture of an animal Steve Backshall would like to meet! We had lots of lovely paintings and the children were really sensible when using the paint pumps.
We've also had lots of fun outside and have learnt how to use our water butt to get water for the tray.
Reception have really enjoyed learning how to use our room in different ways!
